Myooin Temple
Myooin Temple is part of the Shingon Sect of Buddhism, affiliated with Kongobuji Temple in Mt. Koya. Its main deity is Fudo Myoo, and it has 520 households as parishioners.
Myooin is also known as Tsukiminesan Hoshakuji Temple. It is located at the trailhead of Mt. Kotsu and is a famous spot for viewing cherry blossoms in spring. The buildings on site include the main temple, the Jizo temple, the Daishi temple, the kitchen building, and the bell tower, all on a plot about 3300 square meters in area.
Legend has it the temple was built by Kobo Daishi, but according to local history books, it was established in February 1574 by the first abbot, Yozen.
On November 15, 1953, the Oe-gun Shingon Sect temples held anniversary events here on the 1150th anniversary of the death of Kobo Daishi and installed a statue of Kobo Daishi on the temple grounds. The temple is #9 on the Shikoku 36 temple pilgrimage of Fudo Myoo temples.
