Sakaitani  burial  mound
This  burial  mound,  known  as  the  Sakaitani  burial  mound,  is  located  in  the  mountain  forest  of  Miyaji  Sakaitani  and  is  said  to  be  the  largest  burial  mound  ever  discovered  in  Yamakawa  Town.  It  has  a  base  diameter  of  10  meters  and  a  height  of  about  3  meters,  but  it  was  stolen  at  some  point  and  most  of  the  burial  accessories  were  lost.
However,  a  re-excavation  conducted  on  July  14,  1958  revealed  the  following:  two  jasper  (Izumo  stone)  tubes,  one  crystal  stone,  two  copper  ear  rings,  several  iron  hoes,  and  other  artifacts.  In  addition,  many  fragments  of  earthenware  and  Sue  ware  were  found.
　From  this,  we  can  infer  that  people  have  been  living  in  our  hometown  since  the  Stone  Age  (around  the  10th  to  3rd  centuries  BC),  but  it  is  said  that  they  probably  belonged  to  a  warrior-like  clan.
