Sakaitani Ancient Cemetery
These artifacts were found at the "Sakatani Tumulus" in Miyaji when I was editing the Yamakawa-cho history in 1958. This tomb is one of the rare ones among the tombs in this town that has been completely preserved, and although the interior had already been destroyed, the artifacts were obtained by sorting out the remaining soil.
1. 1 crystal faceted ball
2. 2 Izumo stones
3. 2 ear ornament rings
4. several pieces of ironware
5. earthenware
6. dozens of Sue ware pieces.
The quartz stone and Izumo stone were probably used as neck ornaments, but although they all had holes drilled in them, they were thicker on one side and thinner on the other, and the holes were not drilled in the middle but shifted to one side.
There are also two ear ornaments, one large and one small, with a greenish-blue color. They may have been gilded with silver or gold. The iron fragments are arrowheads. They may be fragments of swords or parts of armor. Doji ware was made earlier than Sue ware, and was softer, while Sue ware was hard ware baked at high temperatures, and this technique is said to have been introduced from the continent.
There are many burial mounds in Yamakawa Town, mainly in the eastern hills, and the number of burial mounds can be counted in the literature as more than one hundred.
The number of burial mounds in Yamakawa-cho, which can be counted in the literature, is more than a hundred, but only a dozen or so are still in existence. The number of artifacts that have been excavated is very small, and although there are records of their excavation and legends about them, the only existing artifacts are those excavated from the Sakaiya tumulus.
Since this town is said to be the birthplace of the Imbibe tribe, it is necessary to clarify the location of the burial mounds that prove this, preserve them, and cherish the excavated items.
