poems selected for the imperial poetry contest
In 1921, a monument was erected on the west side of the torii gate in the precincts of Setsuzume Hachiman Shrine to commemorate the poem that was selected as one of the poems for the New Year's Imperial Theme "Dawn at the Head of the Shrine. The inscription on the monument reads as follows
Imperial title: Dawn at the head of the shrine
A thousand years have passed in the shrine grounds.
The night is dawning over the treetops.
I was honored to be selected to write the imperial title "Dawn at the Shrine" at the beginning of the poetry festival in 1921.

The author of this poem, Matsuda Seiichi, is the eldest son of Setozume Matsuda Bunpei.
