Hatami's kiln
The remains of Hatami's kiln were discovered in March 1967.
The town's Board of Education was informed by Mr. Yoshiyuki Manabe of Hatami in late 1966 that pieces of spit had been found in the rice fields.
Koichi Mori, then an assistant professor at the Faculty of Letters, Doshisha University, excavated the site for one week from March 11, 1967. According to the research, the remains of this kiln were found to be from the Heian period (10th century), and were used to burn Sue ware. A bowl, a spit, and a bottle were found, but the spit (which is damaged) has been preserved by the town's Board of Education.
The remains of Sue ware kilns were also found in Anan and Itano counties in Tokushima, but they are now only found here due to land reclamation.
