Shotenji Temple
The main deity of the sect is the Holy Kannon Bodhisattva.
Shotenji Temple was a small hermitage where prayers were offered to those who were suffering from troubles and pains.
In the first year of the Ansei Era (1854), a resident priest named Kaimichi sent a letter to the Saga Daigakuji Temple of the ancient Shingon sect in Kyoto, and was allowed to name the temple Kaishikiyama Gensho Ritsuin Hogoji.
In the first year of the Meiji era (1868-1912), the Daishonen joyous deity was newly enshrined. The temple had no priest for a while after the war, but later the priest Yamashita Hoken came to live in the temple, and the temple was converted to the main sect of Kongozan Shugden.
On July 10, 1952, the temple changed its name to Genjozan Shotenji and has been in existence ever since.
A little further up the mountain from the temple, there is a Buddha carved on a large rock with three peeling pieces of Dainichi Nyorai, Kobo Daishi, and Fudo Myoo.
